PLK News 7/16: Summary of the DBS Regatta 2016

Day 1

The scorching sun of the summer season shone brightly in the sky. Once again, the Marina Promontory is abuzz with activities as paddlers from various teams gather today to compete in the event of the year, the DBS Marina Regatta 2016. The DBS MR is an annual event organized by DBS and its sponsors. This year, there are many fringe activities on site, which includes the tallest inflatable water slide, urban beaches, food stalls, souvenir stands, live performances right here at the bay.

Our Paddlers are all warmed up and ready to start the day fresh with the 12 men crew 200 metre race:

The heats were clocked at an impressive 56 seconds! Well done team! Though we did not make it through the semi's, the timing clocked for both heats and semis were fantastic and a big improvement from last year regatta! Its time for a well deserved rest and relaxation as we prepare for the 500m race category in June!

Big thanks to:
Eugene Tan for managing the team and keeping the spirits up
Oz Titus Hong for coaching and motivating the team
Jiahui (Captain) for keeping the team together and motivated
and other paddlers who have helped in one way or another!

Stay tuned for Day 2!

We have a couple of videos for your viewing pleasure.

Day 2:

The paddlers gathered once again to compete in the 500m race set in Day 2. Here are some of the proceedings during the race

The 500m race for DBS 12 Men crew was a highly contested race category, and after putting up a strong fight, the paddlers managed to score a 13/52 placing in this category. Well done paddlers!

In summary:

In the face of difficult times, when the going gets tough, PLK paddlers must stay bonded and stick together through thick and thin. Big thanks to Eugene and Jiahui/Elson for constantly keeping the team bonded and motivated!

As the DBS Marina Regatta draws to a close, PLK has indeed took away some learning points. The dragonboat fraternity is growing stronger as a whole, hence we must not fall short of our training and personal fitness.

Stay positive, and support one another - Eugene Tan, Assistant Coach, Team PLK.
